X Launches Grok-Powered Timeline Customization, Lets Users Pin 75+ Topics for Personalized Feeds

X’s Grok integrates personalized timelines for Premium users, allowing them to pin over 75 topics, enhancing user engagement and content relevance.

Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, is integrating its AI chatbot Grok into users’ content experience with a new timeline customization feature aimed at Premium subscribers. Product head Nikita Bier announced that iOS Premium users will receive early access to a tool allowing them to pin over 75 specific topics to their home tab. Grok will leverage these topics to tailor posts across users’ timelines, enhancing personalization.

“It’s powered by Grok’s understanding of every post with the algorithm’s personalisation—meaning every timeline is made just for you. And it works even better when it’s a topic you already engage with,” Bier stated. He expressed enthusiasm for the feature, which has been a major project over several months, and indicated that it would soon be available for Android users as well.

In a strategic shift, X is phasing out its Communities feature, which enabled users to connect within topic-based groups. Initially, the company set a two-week window for users to migrate their content, but Bier has now extended the deadline to May 30th for users to transition to XChat, the platform’s new messaging service. This change follows X’s observation of “declining usage” for Communities.

“We’ve heard you. To give sufficient time to migrate: You’ll have until May 30th to transition to XChat,” Bier noted, adding that group chat limits will increase to accommodate larger communities. X is now encouraging users to utilize group chats, where public joinable links can be shared and pinned to enhance member interaction.

Alongside these developments, X is introducing a new “Snooze” feature that allows users to temporarily mute topics in their “For You” feed. “Today we’re also rolling out a tool to snooze topics on your For You tab—if you ever want to crank up or turn down the slop,” Bier explained. This feature is currently available for Premium users on iOS and the web, reflecting the platform’s ongoing adjustments to enhance user experience.

These updates come at a time when Musk is under scrutiny in France regarding Grok’s operations. According to reports from The Independent, French prosecutors have summoned Musk as part of an investigation led by the cybercrime division. The inquiry is focused on allegations of algorithm misuse and unlawful data extraction, first opened in January 2025 following complaints about potential bias in Grok’s system. As new evidence has emerged, the investigation has expanded to include concerns over explicit AI-generated content and the unauthorized use of images.

The increasing emphasis on customization and community interaction on X reflects a broader trend in social media, where platforms are leveraging advanced technologies to enhance user engagement. As users become more selective about their online experiences, features like Grok’s personalized timelines and the transition to XChat could play pivotal roles in retaining user interest and activity on the platform.

As the landscape continues to evolve, both X and its users face new challenges and opportunities in navigating the complexities of AI-powered interactions in a rapidly changing digital environment.
