Epson Reveals Gemini AI Upgrade for Google TV in Select Lifestudio Projectors

Epson integrates Google TV with Gemini in Lifestudio projectors, enhancing user experience with AI-driven content discovery and smart home control.

Epson announced at CES 2026 the integration of Google TV with Gemini for select Lifestudio projectors, marking a significant advancement in projector technology through the incorporation of Google’s AI assistant. This update replaces Google Assistant with Gemini across compatible models, enhancing user experience with contextual conversation capabilities and personalized content discovery.

The Lifestudio Grand projector will be the first to receive Gemini support via a forthcoming firmware update in the coming months. Subsequent Lifestudio models will follow suit throughout 2026, with Epson planning staggered announcements regarding their availability. All integrations are powered by MediaTek’s system-on-chip smart projector platform, negating the need for external streaming devices.

Gemini facilitates unified content discovery across an extensive library of 700,000 movies, episodes, and live TV sources, allowing users to build and manage watchlists from mobile devices and access them seamlessly on the big screen. Moreover, the AI assistant offers personalized recommendations tailored to users’ viewing history across various streaming services.

With Gemini integration, smart home control expands significantly, enabling users to manage compatible devices such as lights, thermostats, and doorbells directly through the projector interface. Melvin Diaz, senior product manager for home entertainment at Epson America, Inc., stated, “As one of the first companies to integrate Google TV with Gemini on projectors, our collaboration with Google TV underscores Epson’s commitment to advancing home projection, giving users a truly cinematic AI experience that makes big-screen entertainment more responsive and personal than ever before.”

Despite the new software capabilities, hardware specifications remain unchanged, retaining 3LCD projection technology and audio systems tuned by Bose across both portable and ultra-short-throw designs. The Gemini experience mandates a Google Account and an internet connection of at least 5 Mbps for HD streaming or 25 Mbps for 4K streaming. Firmware updates will automatically enable the feature on compatible models.

Epson positions this integration as a response to increasing consumer demand for seamless connected home entertainment. CK Wang, general manager at MediaTek, highlighted that the platform delivers “the magic of a home theater in a portable, all-in-one form factor.” This initiative aims to enhance the perception of projectors as comprehensive entertainment devices rather than mere supplementary hardware.

The rollout of Gemini integration will commence with select newer Lifestudio models, gradually expanding throughout 2026. Epson will provide specific timelines regarding the compatibility of additional projectors as the year progresses. This integration illustrates Google’s ongoing expansion of Gemini across platforms following recent updates to Google TV, underscoring a broader trend toward enhancing user experience in home entertainment environments.
