PM Modi Accelerates India’s Global AI Ambitions with Startups Ahead of 2026 Summit

PM Modi champions India’s AI ambitions by hosting 12 promising startups ahead of the AI Impact Summit 2026, aiming to position the nation as a global leader in inclusive technology.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high-level roundtable discussion with leading Indian artificial intelligence startups at his residence, emphasizing the government’s intent to position India as a global AI powerhouse. This gathering included 12 startups that have qualified for the AI for ALL Global Impact Challenge, providing them a platform to present their innovations and discuss how AI can foster inclusive growth and large-scale societal change.

The participating startups are engaged in a diverse array of advanced AI domains, including Indian language foundation models, multilingual large language models, speech-to-text and text-to-audio technologies, text-to-video solutions, and 3D generative AI for e-commerce. During the roundtable, founders and leaders showcased their ideas, progress, and use cases, illustrating how their technologies are addressing real-world challenges while building globally competitive AI capabilities from India.

Highlighting the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, Prime Minister Modi pointed out India’s strengths in both innovation and large-scale implementation. He noted that the country has the capacity to develop a distinctive AI approach that reflects national priorities while remaining globally relevant. Articulating this vision, Modi asserted that India should present a unique AI model to the world that embodies the spirit of “Made in India, Made for the World.” He stressed that India is actively working to drive transformation across sectors by strategically leveraging AI technologies.

The roundtable occurs at a crucial moment ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in India next month. According to Modi, the upcoming summit will bolster India’s role in the global technology ecosystem and serve as a platform to showcase the country’s growing AI capabilities, policy direction, and collaborative potential.

The meeting featured leaders from notable startups and organizations, including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gan.AI, Genloop, gnani.ai, IntelliHealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Soket AI Labs, Tech Mahindra, and ZenteiQ.ai. Participants commended India’s robust policy push and institutional support for AI, noting a discernible shift in AI innovation and deployment towards India. Collectively, these discussions reflected growing confidence in India’s capacity to influence the next phase of global AI development through responsible, scalable, and inclusive innovation.

As India prepares for the AI Impact Summit, the synergy between government support and innovative startups may well position the country to play a significant role in shaping the future of global artificial intelligence.
