Morocco is poised to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure with the establishment of the JAZARI ROOT Institute, following a significant agreement signed during the “AI Made in Morocco” National Meeting. This initiative, supervised by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, aims to centralize the country’s AI efforts and support its integration into public administration.
The JAZARI ROOT Institute is designed to be the central hub of the JAZARI Network for AI, facilitating research, technological expertise, and innovation at a national level. Its responsibilities include coordinating AI initiatives, pooling resources, and ensuring that scientific research aligns with the operational needs of public administrations and territorial authorities. This effort marks a structured approach toward fostering a robust AI ecosystem in Morocco.
As part of its role within the JAZARI Network, the institute will connect various research institutions, public bodies, and local governments, thereby promoting the practical application of AI across public services and development projects. The network is expected to expand with the establishment of additional institutes across all twelve regions of Morocco, aiming to localize AI adoption and promote balanced regional integration.
This initiative is aligned with Morocco’s broader ambition to develop sovereign AI capabilities and enhance national digital skills, as outlined in the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy. The founding agreement unites twelve ministerial departments and five key stakeholders from the digital, territorial development, and private sectors, indicating a comprehensive, multi-stakeholder approach to AI governance and innovation.
Morocco’s commitment to artificial intelligence comes at a time when many countries are racing to harness AI technologies for improved efficiency and modernization. By establishing the JAZARI ROOT Institute, Morocco aims to position itself as a regional leader in AI, ensuring that its public administration is equipped to meet the challenges of the digital age. As the country embarks on this transformative journey, the focus will be on fostering collaboration among various sectors to maximize the potential benefits of AI for society.
