ST Engineering and Ramco Launch AI-Led MRO Tech Partnership for Aviation Innovation

ST Engineering and Ramco Systems forge a strategic MoU to create an AI-driven MRO competence center in Singapore, enhancing aerospace digital solutions and operational efficiency.

ST Engineering’s Commercial Aerospace division has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ramco Systems, an aviation software provider, to forge a long-term digital partnership aimed at advancing next-generation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) technology. The agreement, unveiled during the Singapore Airshow, sets the stage for collaborative efforts to develop digital solutions tailored for the global aerospace sector.

The partnership will focus on a feasibility study for establishing a jointly operated competency centre and innovation lab in Singapore. This proposed facility is envisioned as a hub for digital innovation and artificial intelligence in the field of aviation MRO, reflecting a growing trend within the industry to embrace cutting-edge technological solutions.

MRO providers are increasingly under pressure to enhance turnaround times and control costs, all while adhering to stringent compliance and documentation standards. Airlines and lessors are demanding greater transparency regarding maintenance statuses across their fleets and components, which has made software platforms and data analytics essential for modern maintenance operations. The MoU integrates ST Engineering’s extensive MRO capabilities, which encompass airframes, engines, and components, with Ramco’s advanced aviation software products and AI-driven platforms.

Jeffrey Lam, President of Commercial Aerospace at ST Engineering, remarked, “This potential collaboration builds on our ongoing digital transformation journey. By pairing our operational experience and know-how with Ramco’s aviation and AI expertise, we can unlock new avenues to boost MRO efficiency and further enhance the value delivered to our customers.” The initiative aims to develop digital tools that will streamline multiple stages of the MRO lifecycle, with a strong focus on AI-enabled solutions.

The digital programs envisaged in the partnership will cover various aspects of aviation maintenance, including planning, material management, job execution, and compliance documentation. Many operators are also looking into automating processes such as task assignments and predictive maintenance based on operational data. However, specific product modules to be utilized in this partnership and a timeline for the establishment of the proposed lab or centre remain unannounced.

Ramco will leverage its aviation product suite and AI capabilities to facilitate platform development within the aviation ecosystem and enable scaling of digital tools in highly regulated environments. Sandesh Bilagi, President and COO of Ramco Systems, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to partner with ST Engineering, a global leader in commercial aerospace services, to shape the next generation of digital aviation platforms.” He emphasized the shared vision of co-creating future-ready solutions that meet the evolving needs of the aviation industry.

This MoU exemplifies a broader trend where major maintenance providers are increasingly collaborating with software specialists, moving away from reliance on internally developed tools. Such partnerships can serve as valuable testbeds for product innovation, particularly when software vendors are granted access to real-world operational workflows and maintenance data, contingent on customer and regulatory oversight.

As the companies move forward, the next steps will include the feasibility study for the Singapore-based competency centre and innovation lab. This exploration will determine how the facility can be structured and operated, as the partnership evolves. The collaboration between ST Engineering and Ramco Systems underscores a pivotal shift towards integrating digital technologies in aviation maintenance, aiming to improve operational efficiency and strengthen compliance in a rapidly changing industry.
