Google DeepMind has unveiled the Lyria 3 AI model for music generation, seamlessly integrated into its Gemini chatbot. This latest advancement allows users to create audio compositions simply by providing text prompts, images, or videos. The announcement highlights the model’s capability to generate a variety of music styles with minimal user input.

Users can interact with the model by describing an idea or uploading an image. For example, one could prompt the system with “a comical slow R&B track about a sock that found its pair,” and within seconds, Gemini will generate a high-quality composition. This functionality represents a significant leap in AI-driven creativity, making music generation more accessible to the general public.

The Lyria 3 model enhances three key areas compared to its predecessors. Firstly, users no longer need to formulate their own lyrics; the large language model (LLM) autonomously generates text based on the initial prompt. Secondly, it provides users with creative control over musical elements such as style, vocals, and tempo. Lastly, the model is capable of producing tracks that are not only realistic but also musically complex, expanding the potential for creative expression.

Gemini has the capability to create 30-second audio snippets and generates custom cover art with the help of a feature named Nano Banana, allowing users to easily share their creations with friends. Google emphasizes that the objective is not necessarily to produce a musical masterpiece, but to offer a fun and innovative way for individuals to express themselves musically.

The Lyria 3 model is currently available in multiple languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, making it accessible to a diverse user base. Initially launched for desktop, a mobile version is set to debut in the coming days. Subscribers to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra will enjoy extended limits for music generation.

The rise of AI-generated music has garnered increasing attention in the industry, with streaming service Deezer reporting 9.7 million paying users and over 50,000 AI tracks being uploaded daily, representing about one-third of the total content. Meanwhile, an impressive 97% of listeners are unable to distinguish between AI-generated songs and those composed by humans, highlighting the advancing sophistication of AI in music production.

All tracks generated by Lyria 3 will carry an embedded SynthID label, an invisible watermark that facilitates the identification of AI-created content. This move aligns with ongoing industry efforts to address the implications of AI in creative fields, emphasizing the importance of transparency and content provenance.

Looking back, the landscape of AI music creation has evolved rapidly, with notable innovations such as the introduction of Suno Studio in September 2025. This platform claims to be the “world’s first” generative digital audio workstation (DAW), fundamentally transforming the music creation process.
