In an effort to support returning seasonal residents of Sanibel and Captiva islands, Florida Trust Wealth Management recently hosted a seminar aimed at introducing the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative provided a comprehensive overview of various AI tools, including ChatGPT and Claude, demonstrating how these technologies can streamline everyday tasks for residents.
Leading the seminar was Mark Bole, a faculty fellow at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Ain Technology and Design Hub. This partnership began in March when community leaders sought assistance in digitally tracking recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian. Since then, Bole and his team have organized multiple workshops to assist local businesses in integrating AI and other technologies into their operations. Bole expressed his enthusiasm for this particular workshop, stating, “It was refreshing to help individuals.”
During the session, attendees explored various AI applications, including HeyGen, a platform for creating audio, imagery, and promotional videos using AI. Bole also introduced Google NotebookLM, a versatile tool designed for learning and content creation, which can transform a PDF into a podcast.
The demographic landscape of Sanibel Island reveals a median age of 68.2, in stark contrast to Captiva’s younger median of 37.3. Recognizing this age diversity, Jeff Muddell, president of Florida Trust Wealth Management’s Sanibel office, emphasized the importance of AI education across all age groups. “Whether you’re 70 or seven in terms of age, you really want to know and understand what’s going on so you can harness these tools for your good,” Muddell remarked.
Florida Trust Wealth Management is the newly unified identity of the Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, incorporating divisions from The Naples Trust Company and Tampa Bay Trust Company.
This seminar’s emphasis on accessibility reflects a broader trend in the AI industry, where tools are increasingly designed for general use, transcending technical expertise. As platforms like ChatGPT and Claude become more integrated into daily life, understanding their functionalities could empower residents to enhance their personal and professional routines.
