ByteDance Launches Dreamina Seedance 2.0 for CapCut in Limited Global Rollout

ByteDance launches Dreamina Seedance 2.0 for CapCut, enabling AI-assisted video and audio editing in select markets amid copyright concerns.

ByteDance announced on Thursday the phased rollout of its new audio and video model, Dreamina Seedance 2.0, on its editing platform, CapCut. This innovative model enables creators to draft, edit, and synchronize video and audio content using prompts, images, or reference videos. Initial availability will target users in Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, with additional markets expected to follow.

This announcement comes in the wake of a report indicating that the global rollout of the model would be temporarily halted to address intellectual property concerns. These issues drew significant criticism from Hollywood for alleged copyright infringement. This backdrop may clarify the model’s limited launch markets, as users in China can access Dreamina Seedance 2.0 via ByteDance’s Jianying app.

According to ByteDance, Dreamina Seedance 2.0 operates without the need for reference images, allowing creators to describe scenes using minimal text. It boasts capabilities in rendering realistic textures, movements, and lighting across various visual perspectives and angles. This feature can be particularly useful for editing, enhancing, or correcting creators’ own footage.

The model is designed for diverse content types, including cooking recipes, fitness tutorials, and business presentations, as well as motion or action-focused videos—an area where AI models have traditionally struggled. It supports video clips of up to 15 seconds in length across six different aspect ratios.

ByteDance has implemented safety features to prevent the creation of videos from images or videos that feature real faces. Additionally, CapCut will restrict unauthorized generation of intellectual property. Content produced using Dreamina Seedance 2.0 will include an invisible watermark to identify it when shared off-platform, aiding copyright holders in managing takedown requests if necessary.

Within CapCut, Dreamina Seedance 2.0 will enhance various editing features, including AI video tools and the Video Studio, and will also be integrated into ByteDance’s AI generation platform, Dreamina, in addition to its marketing platform, Pippit.

This rollout follows the recent shutdown of OpenAI’s Sora, an AI video-generation app, which lasted less than two years. OpenAI also announced plans to wind down its $1 billion partnership with Disney, indicating a shift in focus towards potentially more profitable areas such as coding tools and corporate clients.

As the AI video generation landscape evolves, ByteDance’s introduction of Dreamina Seedance 2.0 represents a significant advancement in the field. With enhanced features designed to cater to a broad range of creators, it underscores the competitive nature of AI-driven content creation, as companies vie for market share in an increasingly digital world.
