Google Extends Free Year of AI Pro for US College Students Until 2027 with Gemini 3 Pro

Google reintroduces a free year of its AI Pro plan for U.S. college students, featuring access to the powerful Gemini 3 Pro model until spring 2027.

In a significant move to bolster its engagement in higher education, tech giant Google is reintroducing its free year of the Google AI Pro plan for eligible college students in the United States. This offer comes on the heels of the release of Google’s new Gemini 3 Pro AI model, providing students with access to powerful AI tools and resources at no cost until spring 2027.

Details of the Google AI Pro Offer

College students in the U.S. can now sign up for an additional year of the Google AI Pro plan, which includes access to the Gemini 3 Pro model. This advanced AI system offers features such as unlimited image uploads, professional-level image generation, customized quizzes, and advanced learning tools like NotebookLM. Additionally, students will benefit from 2 TB of storage on Google Drive.

The plan provides enhanced research capabilities, allowing students to summarize complex topics and generate reports complete with sources. Furthermore, included features like audio overviews—essentially podcast-style summaries of notes and lectures—help to enrich the learning experience. The Gemini Live feature enables students to brainstorm ideas, simplify difficult concepts, and rehearse presentations with real-time feedback. Integration with Google Workspace apps, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, adds to the suite’s utility.

Eligibility and Sign-Up Process

To take advantage of this offer, students must visit gemini.google/students and click on “Get Offer.” After logging into their personal Google account, students will need to verify their status using SheerID. Google has outlined a straightforward signup process, although it requires students to be 18 years or older and currently enrolled in a qualifying higher education institution.

It is important to note that participants must use a personal Gmail account for the registration process, as university-issued Google Workspace accounts are not eligible. A payment method is also required during sign-up. However, Google promises a reminder to cancel the plan before the trial ends to avoid automatic renewal. Students interested in the offer must sign up by January 31, 2026, with the final sign-up date being December 9, 2025.

While this initiative is an exciting opportunity for many, some students may face challenges if their institution is not recognized under the SheerID system. Google does not provide a complete list of eligible colleges, but those encountering verification issues can reach out to [email protected] or consult the SheerID help center for assistance.

By reintroducing this free year of the Google AI Pro plan, Google aims to deepen its presence in the academic sector, providing a range of tools designed to support studying, research, and creativity. This effort aligns with a broader trend of integrating AI technologies into educational frameworks, helping students to familiarize themselves with these advanced tools early in their academic careers.

As AI continues to evolve, initiatives like these reflect the growing recognition of the importance of equipping the next generation of learners with the skills and resources necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Google’s emphasis on accessible AI tools underscores a commitment to fostering innovation and creativity in education.
