Malaysia-based Cape EMS Berhad announced on Tuesday the formation of GrandCape (M) Sdn Bhd, a joint venture with New Grand Tech (HK) Limited. This venture aims to enhance advanced interconnect engineering within sectors including electric vehicle (EV) mobility, artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, and energy systems. The initiative is part of Cape EMS’s broader strategy, termed CEB 2.0, which seeks to evolve the company from a traditional assembly provider into a more sophisticated, engineering-focused system integrator that merges digital infrastructure with advanced energy systems.
GrandCape is designed to serve as a dedicated platform for manufacturing and engineering, specializing in Flexible Flat Cable (FFC), advanced electronics, AI data centres (AIDC), and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) interconnect solutions. This strategic focus positions Cape EMS to meet the high-performance connectivity demands necessary for modern digital infrastructure.
By producing specialized FFCs, high-density interconnect solutions, and components that ensure signal integrity for GPU clusters, Cape EMS is integrating itself within the critical supply chains that support large-scale AI deployments and the training of generative AI models. Concurrently, the company is enhancing its capabilities to support the global energy transition.
The joint venture will provide reliable interconnect systems for battery modules and extensive BESS deployments, as well as essential FFC connectivity for both EVs and smart mobility ecosystems. This development aligns with the current macroeconomic landscape, where surging energy demands from AI necessitate scalable and advanced energy storage solutions.
Notably, GrandCape has already commenced operations, with four FFC machines actively producing at its facility in Senai, Johor. This move exemplifies a capital-efficient strategy that minimizes ramp-up risks, accelerates time-to-market, and creates immediate revenue potential without requiring significant investments in new infrastructure.
“This initiative represents a strategic evolution of our business—moving beyond traditional manufacturing into high-value interconnect and system integration solutions supporting both AI infrastructure and energy systems,” stated Christina Tee Kim Chin, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Cape EMS Berhad. She emphasized that the company’s positioning within the AI data centre GPU supply chain, coupled with its expansion into BESS interconnect solutions, enables it to tap into two of the most significant global growth drivers: AI and energy transition.
Tee Kim Chin further underscored that this initiative reinforces the firm’s CEB 2.0 vision of developing a resilient, future-ready platform anchored in advanced engineering, digital infrastructure, and sustainable energy solutions. The backing of robust growth trends in GPU-driven infrastructure, grid modernization, industrial automation, and EV expansion positions GrandCape as a primary growth engine for the company.
This latest undertaking not only highlights Cape EMS’s commitment to delivering higher-quality earnings but also solidifies Malaysia’s status as a strategic regional hub for advanced engineering. As demand for AI and energy solutions surges, GrandCape is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of interconnect technologies in an evolving market landscape.
