Adobe Acquires Semrush to Enhance AI-Driven Brand Discovery and Engagement Strategies

Adobe acquires Semrush to boost AI-driven brand discovery, enhancing engagement capabilities as AI traffic to U.S. retail sites surges by 269% year-on-year.

San Jose: Adobe has completed its acquisition of Semrush Holdings, Inc., a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing its capabilities in AI-driven customer discovery and engagement. The deal integrates Semrush’s expertise in search engine optimization (SEO) and brand visibility into Adobe’s offerings, positioning the company to deliver comprehensive solutions for how consumers increasingly interact with brands through AI interfaces and agents.

This acquisition arrives as customer engagement is undergoing significant transformation. The role of conversational AI and large language models in influencing purchasing decisions is expanding, compelling businesses to reevaluate how they establish visibility and relevance across digital channels. Adobe highlighted that traffic driven by AI to U.S. retail websites surged by 269 percent year-on-year as of March 2026, indicating the urgent need for brands to adapt to changing consumer behaviors.

By incorporating Semrush’s discoverability intelligence, Adobe aims to address existing gaps in AI-led visibility. The combined offerings will span SEO, generative engine optimization (GEO), and agentic search optimization (ASO), enabling organizations to enhance both discoverability and conversion rates in an increasingly fragmented digital landscape.

This acquisition also aligns with Adobe’s broader strategy for customer experience orchestration. The recently introduced Adobe CX Enterprise platform aims to build an AI-driven system designed to unify data, content, and workflows. This platform facilitates businesses in delivering personalized experiences at scale while allowing AI agents to automate and optimize complex processes throughout the content supply chain, customer engagement, and brand visibility.

Semrush’s capabilities will be integrated across Adobe’s suite of products, including Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Commerce, and Adobe Experience Platform, as well as its AI-driven tools like LLM Optimizer and Brand Concierge. The integration is expected to offer marketers a more connected and actionable perspective of their brand presence across both owned and external digital environments.

Executives from Adobe emphasized that this acquisition will empower businesses of all sizes—from small startups to multinational corporations—to navigate the shift toward AI-mediated discovery more effectively. As AI agents increasingly shape how consumers search for, evaluate, and engage with brands, marketers must create content that resonates not only with users but also with machine-driven systems.

With a track record of over 17 years helping organizations scale through digital marketing insights, Semrush stands to gain from Adobe’s expansive ecosystem. The company has indicated that its customers can expect continued investment in product development as the integration unfolds.

Through this acquisition, Adobe is positioning itself to offer a cohesive platform that integrates discoverability, engagement, and conversion. As brands adjust to a future where visibility is influenced by algorithms and AI agents as much as by traditional search methods, Adobe aims to be at the forefront, equipping organizations to thrive in an evolving digital landscape.
