PC GPU Shipments Increase 2.5% in Q3’25, Totaling 76.6 Million Units, Says Jon Peddie Research

GPU shipments surged 2.5% to 76.6 million units in Q3 2025, amid market instability and evolving demand, according to Jon Peddie Research

Jon Peddie Research (JPR) has released its third-quarter 2025 Market Watch report, revealing significant growth in the global PC-based graphics processing unit (GPU) market. In Q3 2025, GPU shipments reached 76.6 million units, marking a 2.5% increase from the previous quarter and a 4.0% rise year-over-year. Concurrently, PC central processing unit (CPU) shipments rose to 65.0 million units during the same period.

The report projects a compound annual growth rate of 1.5% for the GPU market, anticipating an installed base of 2,995 million units by 2029. Over the next five years, discrete GPUs (dGPU) are expected to penetrate the PC market by 25%, reflecting a growing reliance on dedicated graphics solutions for enhanced computing performance.

Year-over-year data indicates that total GPU shipments across all platforms increased by 4.0%. Desktop graphics shipments surged by 10.7%, while notebook GPUs saw a modest increase of 1.4%. In terms of market share, AMD’s stake rose by 0.9% from the previous quarter, while Intel and Nvidia experienced slight declines of 0.8% and 0.1%, respectively.

The overall attach rate of GPUs, encompassing both integrated and discrete varieties used in desktops, notebooks, and workstations, climbed to 120% this quarter, up 2.9% from last quarter. In contrast, the CPU market exhibited a mixed performance; while unit shipments increased by 2.2% from the previous quarter, they declined by 2.2% year-over-year. AMD’s CPU shipments rose by 1%, while Intel’s decreased by 0.8%.

The third quarter typically witnesses growth compared to the prior quarter. However, JPR noted that GPU shipments fell below the ten-year average of 4.7%. Dr. Jon Peddie, president of JPR, commented on the turmoil in the market, stating, “The PC and GPU market has been anything but stable or predictable. Memory prices increasing, uncertainty about tariffs, confusion about what an AI PC is, and mixed messages about Windows 10 have disrupted planning and seasonality. Some might call it chaos.”

JPR’s Market Watch report is available in PDF format, priced at $3,000 for a single issue. This report includes a detailed Excel workbook with the data used to create the charts and additional insights. An annual subscription, costing $6,000, grants access to four quarterly issues, along with JPR’s TechWatch service, which offers exclusive daily news coverage.

This report underscores the evolving landscape of the PC and GPU markets as they adapt to emerging technologies and changing consumer needs. As the industry confronts challenges such as fluctuating memory prices and evolving definitions of computing power, stakeholders will be keenly observing these trends, which are likely to shape future product innovations and market strategies.
