Vultr Launches AI Supercluster with 24,000 AMD GPUs in Ohio, Boosting Global AI Capacity

Vultr launches an AI supercluster in Ohio with 24,000 AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs, enhancing global AI workload performance and capacity by 50 MW.

Vultr, the world’s largest privately-held cloud infrastructure company, has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing collaboration with AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) aimed at enhancing AI workloads globally. The company is set to launch an AI supercluster powered by AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs at its new cloud data center in Springfield, Ohio. This expansion, which adds 50 megawatts (MW) of capacity, promises to deliver exceptional performance per dollar for AI training and inference tasks.

Vultr was among the first cloud providers to utilize the AMD Instinct MI325X and MI355X GPUs. The new deployment will introduce an additional 24,000 AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs at the Springfield campus, further solidifying Vultr’s commitment to providing high-performance, energy-efficient AI infrastructure for clients worldwide. The collaboration will continue to evolve, as Vultr plans to adopt the next-generation AMD Instinct MI450 series GPUs and the “Helios” rack-scale infrastructure, showcasing its dedication to the AMD AI platform roadmap.

“As demand for AI infrastructure continues to accelerate, Vultr is committed to delivering hyperscale capacity with speed and global reach,” said J.J. Kardwell, CEO of Vultr. “By investing in the development of racked GPU capacity at scale, we’re enabling enterprises to push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI and bring next-generation applications to market faster.”

The partnership between Vultr and AMD extends beyond GPU technology to encompass full-stack infrastructure, including the AMD EPYC 4005 Series processors and the newly unveiled Vultr VX1 Cloud Compute. This comprehensive approach aims to streamline the deployment of AI capabilities and enhance performance for enterprises relying on cloud infrastructure.

Supported by various local organizations, including the Ohio Governor’s Office, Department of Development, JobsOhio, and the Dayton Development Coalition, this new cloud data center marks Vultr’s entry into Ohio, further enhancing the company’s footprint in the Midwest. This move also reinforces Ohio’s growing reputation as a hub for AI and digital infrastructure, reflecting the increasing investment in advanced technologies within the state.

The significance of Vultr’s investment in Ohio is amplified by the regional push for technological advancement and job creation. As the demand for AI solutions rises across various sectors, Vultr’s expansion aligns with broader industry trends that emphasize the necessity for scalable, efficient infrastructure to support complex AI workloads. By leveraging AMD’s cutting-edge technology, Vultr aims to position itself as a key player in the evolving landscape of cloud computing and AI.

Looking forward, the collaboration between Vultr and AMD is poised to have a lasting impact on the AI infrastructure market. With the integration of advanced GPU technologies and a commitment to expanding their capabilities, both companies are well-positioned to meet the increasing demands of enterprises seeking robust AI solutions. As they continue to innovate and expand their offerings, Vultr and AMD are likely to play pivotal roles in shaping the future of cloud-based AI applications.
