Mukesh Ambani Urges India to Lead Global AI Revolution, Combining Innovation with Empathy

Mukesh Ambani calls for India to lead the global AI revolution, urging collaboration between industry and science to achieve more from less for sustainable development.

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, emphasized India’s potential to lead in the global landscape of Artificial Intelligence during a recent event in Mumbai on December 20. Speaking at the launch of the book ‘More From Less For More: Innovation’s Holy Grail’, Ambani underscored the importance of merging intelligence with empathy and prosperity with purpose, suggesting that India can offer a new model of development to the world.

Ambani portrayed a vision of a vibrant, ambitious India, filled with young dreamers whose aspirations are becoming tangible realities. He asserted that the nation’s future hinges on these innovators transforming their visions into achievements, calling for collaboration between the scientific community and industry leaders to enhance India’s technological landscape.

Reliance Industries is on the verge of evolving into a deep-tech and science-oriented entity, Ambani noted, aligning with his philosophy of achieving “more from less for more.” This approach advocates leveraging advanced technologies while minimizing the use of natural and financial resources, ultimately aiming to uplift the lives of a broader demographic. He referenced the work of Raghunath Mashelkar, who championed this methodology for over three decades, illustrating its effectiveness through India’s remarkable advancements in space exploration. “India has sent a rocket to Mars for less than the cost of a Hollywood movie,” he remarked, highlighting the nation’s efficiency in executing complex projects.

Ambani further elaborated on how this innovative spirit helped establish Jio, which significantly reduced data costs and propelled India into the digital mainstream. He stated that this groundwork is now enabling the country to embrace the AI revolution. “We are at the doorsteps of solving local energy challenges,” he added, stressing the need to optimize solar energy beyond its traditional four-hour utility to address long-standing issues in the country.

In discussing the future of clean energy, Ambani expressed optimism about making sustainable energy widely available and affordable, not just for India but for much of the global community. He said, “We will show the way as to how we can make green and clean energy available in abundance and in an affordable way.” He reiterated that while the world has entered a new era of artificial intelligence, it is essential to prioritize empathy and compassion alongside technological advancements.

Reflecting on the foundational vision of Reliance, Ambani recalled the mission of his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, to enhance the quality of life for all Indians. “Today, we are in a new India, full of young dreamers. Millions of dreams are becoming a reality in India itself,” he said, suggesting that the country’s youth will play a pivotal role in shaping its future.

During the event, Ambani also shared a key lesson he learned from Mashelkar: “Technology without compassion is just machinery.” He pointed out that when infused with compassion, technology can catalyze significant social movements. The pathway to becoming a global superpower, he argued, must include advancements in critical sectors such as healthcare, space exploration, and agriculture.

Ambani called for a stronger integration between Indian businesses and research institutions. He asserted that a person’s background is secondary to the size of their dreams and the determination to realize them. The synergy between the two realms is essential for fostering innovation that can propel India to the forefront of the deep-tech landscape.

As India navigates the complexities of the AI age, the vision articulated by Ambani reflects a broader ambition for the nation—a commitment to harnessing technology not just for economic gain, but as a means to create a more equitable and compassionate society.
