NEW YORK – Jan. 11, 2026 – At the National Retail Federation’s NRF 2026 event, MediaTek unveiled a comprehensive suite of connected solutions tailored for the future of smart retail experiences. The company introduced a high-performance, efficient IoT platform that integrates both 5G and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, alongside robust edge AI and multimedia functionalities. This platform, powered by an octa-core ARMv9 CPU and embedded NPU designed for generative AI, aims to redefine various retail IoT products including automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) systems, table-service kiosks, point-of-sale solutions, and digital signage.

“NRF 2026 represents a prime opportunity to highlight the future of smart retail applications where connectivity and intelligence are boosting productivity and elevating consumer experiences,” stated CK Wang, General Manager of the IoT Business Unit at MediaTek. He emphasized that the company’s advanced computing, connectivity, edge AI, and multimedia capabilities empower retailers to remain competitive amidst the rapidly evolving retail landscape.

The retail sector is undergoing swift changes, creating a demand for sophisticated solutions that enhance both customer journeys and vendor interactions. MediaTek’s IoT portfolio, featured at NRF alongside its collaborative partners, is revolutionizing the functionality of modern PDAs, retail-centric PCs and tablets, desktop and payment POS devices, and commercial display systems. The company’s Genio platform is highlighted as particularly well-suited for edge AI applications within smart retail and hospitality settings, offering support for Vision AI, on-device generative AI, dual-display functionality, remote management for desktop POS systems, and a smart kiosk designed for self-checkout.

MediaTek is also showcasing over 35 technical demonstrations that illustrate how retailers can create a true store-of-the-future experience. These demonstrations cover innovative use cases such as shelf organization, real-time inventory tracking, frictionless payments, and AI applications aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing customer interactions.

Looking ahead in the smart retail ecosystem, a key panel discussion will take place on Monday, Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m. PT, featuring Sameer Sharma as moderator. The session will delve into the progress, challenges, and potential of AI in retail, exploring new avenues for personalization in applications like interactive kiosks and examining the roles of sensors, computer vision, and edge computing in reshaping vendor and customer experiences.

Immediately following this session, Sharma will participate in an industry roundtable at 2:20 p.m. PT, focused on the evolving pulse of retail and the technologies, trends, and products poised to drive the next wave of innovation.
