Motive, a US-based software company, has launched AI Dashcam Plus, a device designed to detect risks in real time and reduce collisions in commercial fleets, according to a company press release. The dash cam combines advanced AI processing with dual forward-facing cameras and hands-free communication in a single unit.
Powered by the Qualcomm Dragonwing™ QCS6490 processor, the device can run more than 30 AI models simultaneously, offering three times the processing power of competing dash cams. Its stereo vision system utilizes two synchronized lenses to enhance depth perception, which Motive claims supports more accurate forward-collision and lane-departure alerts. The integration of these features aims to improve fleet safety by enabling faster responses to dangerous driving behaviors.
Shoaib Makani, Motive’s co-founder and chief executive, emphasized the system’s capabilities, stating, “We’ve added three times more compute, created the first AI dash cam with stereo vision, and added hands-free communication, all in one system, so organisations can detect more risks and act faster.” The device also features automated number plate recognition, advanced sensor fusion, and AI-powered alerts for unsafe driving behaviors, further enhancing its utility for fleet operators.
Motive highlighted that its unified hardware design streamlines installation, enhances connectivity, and ensures reliable uploads of collision footage. Its Android-based platform allows for over-the-air AI updates, optimizing processing workloads across the device’s CPU, GPU, and DSP, ensuring that the system remains current with technological advancements.
The increasing integration of AI within fleet management systems is gaining attention from industry analysts. Beatriz Minamy, principal analyst at S&P Global Market Intelligence, noted, “AI-powered solutions that enable real-time coaching, automated in-cab alerts for unsafe behaviours and proactive risk detection are becoming central to how fleets strengthen safety and accountability.” This emphasis on AI indicates a shift towards more proactive safety measures in commercial transportation.
Motive estimates that its AI dash cams have played a significant role in preventing over 170,000 accidents and saving around 1,500 lives in North America since 2023. An internal study commissioned by the company revealed that fleets utilizing the system have reduced collisions by approximately 80% and accident-related costs by 63%. This data underscores the potential savings for fleet operators and insurance companies, highlighting the financial benefits of adopting advanced safety technologies.
