Such predictive policing strategies raise ethical concerns about the potential for misuse of this technology.
Moreover, the DHS is reportedly using AI software to assess sentiment and emotion in online communications. Individuals critical of immigration policies may find their data shared with DHS through subpoenas sent to major social media platforms. This level of surveillance illustrates the blurred lines between national security measures and domestic privacy violations.
As AI technologies evolve, the federal government is moving towards less oversight, encouraging the adoption of AI systems while minimizing state regulations.
