Runway Launches $100K Big Pitch Contest for Original Show Ideas, Submissions Open Now

Runway invites creators to submit original show pitches for a chance to win up to $100,000 in prizes by May 4 in its Big Pitch Contest.

Submissions for the AI Festival are currently open, offering creators a chance to pitch their dream shows and compete for significant cash prizes. Interested participants have until April 27th to submit their ideas. The competition, which is being hosted by Runway, encourages entries from individuals or teams with a valid subscription to the platform. Submissions must be finalized by May 4th at 10 a.m. ET, with the opportunity to win up to $100,000 in prizes.

Entrants are tasked with crafting a compelling video trailer between one and three minutes long, showcasing their show’s premise, characters, and storytelling style. The guidelines emphasize originality; all pitches must be produced specifically for the contest and must not have been submitted elsewhere. Participants can submit as many different trailers as they wish, making it an open and competitive environment for aspiring creators.

According to the rules, all generative video content must be created within the Runway platform. This stipulation aims to highlight the software’s capabilities while ensuring a level playing field among participants. Each video submission must adhere to specific length requirements—anything shorter than one minute or longer than three will be disqualified. The inclusion of music, sound design, and voiceovers is encouraged, provided that entrants possess the necessary rights for any audio used.

Entrants are also required to place the Big Pitch Contest watermark on their final video submissions. The watermark can be downloaded from the official contest site. The competition also stipulates that all content must be original, meaning that all characters and intellectual property used in the submission must be wholly owned by the participant or their team.

Participants may enter alone or collaborate with a larger group, as there are no restrictions on team size. However, prizes will be awarded to team leaders, ensuring that credit is clearly attributed. While there is no specific genre restriction, submissions containing offensive, graphic, or explicit content will be disqualified, encouraging a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.

The competition acknowledges a range of contributions through a tiered prize structure. The grand prize of $50,000 will be awarded to the best pitch, evaluated on its concept, craft, and overall impact. The second-place entry will receive $15,000, while the third place will earn $10,000. Fourth and fifth places will each receive $5,000, and the next fifteen finalists—ranging from sixth to twentieth place—will each receive $1,000. This extensive prize distribution highlights the organizers’ commitment to recognizing diverse talent and creative ideas.

The judging criteria focus on three main areas: concept, craft, and impact. The concept is considered the most critical aspect, looking for originality and insightfulness. Craft evaluates how well the participants utilized Runway to realize their vision, while impact assesses the impression left on viewers and the overall memorability of the submission.

Creators eager to take part in the competition are reminded that they must submit their pitches using the hashtag #RunwayBigPitchContest on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or LinkedIn. Following this, participants are required to fill out a corresponding form to finalize their entry.

The AI Festival serves as a unique opportunity for creators to showcase their talents while leveraging advanced generative video technology. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the media landscape, events like this provide a platform for innovation and creativity. The competition not only incentivizes originality but also fosters a community of creators who are eager to explore the boundaries of storytelling.
