Samsung Reveals ‘Ask AI’ Chatbot for Galaxy Browser Powered by Perplexity in One UI 9

Samsung unveils ‘Ask AI’ chatbot for Galaxy Internet in One UI 9, enhancing browsing with AI-driven features powered by Perplexity, set for summer launch.

Samsung is reportedly progressing towards the launch of its next software iteration, One UI 9, even as the rollout of One UI 8.5 remains limited. The new version, based on Android 17, is anticipated to make its debut alongside Samsung’s summer lineup of foldable devices, which will also include a new wide-screen foldable model. Early insights into One UI 9 have emerged from leaked builds, revealing potential features aimed at enhancing the user experience on Galaxy phones.

Among the most intriguing developments is a feature dubbed “Ask AI” for Samsung Internet. Details surfaced from a preliminary One UI 9 build, with various sources analyzing the software to uncover its capabilities. Android Authority has highlighted the presence of code related to Ask AI, along with illustrations showcasing its functionality. This feature is expected to significantly enhance the browser’s existing AI tools, particularly in conjunction with the current Browsing assist feature.

SammyGuru took the analysis further by providing a hands-on preview of Ask AI, which allows users to type inquiries about specific web pages, similar to interactions with AI chatbots. Unlike existing tools within Samsung Internet, Ask AI appears to consolidate various functions, including shortcuts for summarizing content, translating text, and reading highlights aloud. These shortcuts are already part of the Browsing assist feature, but Ask AI aims to streamline user access to these options, with the chatbot serving as an additional resource for more complex queries.

Notably, Ask AI is reportedly powered by Perplexity, an AI company that is also set to play a role in updating Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant, with the upcoming One UI 8.5 release. This connection underscores Samsung’s broader strategy to integrate advanced AI functionalities across its software ecosystem.

In a demonstration conducted by SammyGuru’s Josh Skinner, responses from Ask AI appear to be generated swiftly, enhancing user interaction. The feature also allows users to review past conversations, providing options for data retention. Users can choose between keeping Ask AI activity for the duration of a session or up to six months. For those who prefer not to utilize this feature, a toggle is available to disable it entirely.

While this early glimpse of Ask AI suggests a well-designed feature, it is important to consider that Samsung may refine the experience before the initial One UI 9 beta versions are released. The company has a history of iteration based on user feedback, and this could lead to enhancements in both functionality and usability.

As the tech industry increasingly embraces AI, Samsung’s move to integrate such capabilities into its browser reflects a growing trend. With users demanding more intuitive and efficient tools, features like Ask AI could play a pivotal role in shaping the future of mobile browsing and further establishing Samsung Internet within a competitive landscape. As the company prepares for its summer product launch, the anticipation surrounding One UI 9 underscores the significance of AI advancements in consumer technology.
