Quezon City, Philippines — Scholars, researchers, and academic leaders from Jesuit universities worldwide are convening this week at the Ateneo de Manila University for the Inaugural Symposium of the Global Research Alliance of Jesuit Universities (GRAJU). The event, taking place from March 9 to 12, 2026, represents a significant step in fostering global collaboration among Jesuit institutions of higher education.
The symposium brings together prominent figures from Jesuit universities across Asia, Europe, and the Americas to discuss the theme “The AI Frontier and the Distinctives of Global Jesuit Higher Education.” Participants will engage in dialogue on how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, are transforming higher education, research, and the formation of future leaders.
Established in 2025, the Global Research Alliance of Jesuit Universities aims to enhance scholarly collaboration among Jesuit institutions around the globe. Founding members include Ateneo de Manila University, Fordham University, Georgetown University, ITESO, Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara, Sogang University, University of Deusto, and the University of Namur. These institutions are united by a shared commitment to academic excellence, social justice, and research that promotes the global common good.
The symposium provides a platform for participants to present their research, exchange ideas, and develop collaborative initiatives that address the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence in higher education. Key discussions will cover topics such as the integration of AI in Ignatian pedagogy, the ethical and policy implications of emerging technologies, AI-enabled research and innovation, and new models for global academic collaboration.
In addition to academic presentations, the program features research dialogues, networking sessions, and opportunities for scholars to forge future partnerships across institutions. Organizers express hope that the symposium will catalyze joint research projects, collaborative publications, and new initiatives that deepen cooperation among Jesuit universities globally.
By hosting this inaugural gathering, Ateneo de Manila University emphasizes its commitment to advancing global research collaboration, while ensuring that the application of technological innovation in higher education is rooted in human dignity, ethical reflection, and a service-oriented approach to society.
The GRAJU Symposium signifies the dawn of a new chapter in Jesuit higher education, aiming to harness global scholarship and emerging technologies to build a more just, humane, and hopeful future.
