Dell Launches Pro 5 Micro Desktop, Compact Design with 50 TOPS AI Performance via USB-C

Dell introduces the Pro 5 Micro Desktop, featuring a compact design and 50 TOPS AI performance powered via a single USB-C connection.

Dell has unveiled its latest innovation, the Dell Pro 5 Micro Desktop, designed to deliver desktop-class computing while occupying a remarkably small footprint. This device is targeted at businesses looking to maximize limited desk space and minimize cable clutter typically associated with traditional desktop towers.

The Pro 5 Micro erases the conventional tower design in favor of an ultra-compact form that can fit entirely behind a monitor. This is particularly useful in modern office environments where space is at a premium. Powering the device requires just a single USB-C input, which can draw up to 100W of power, allowing it to run directly from compatible Dell Pro monitors.

Equipped with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, the Pro 5 Micro features an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that is capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS of performance. This capability is instrumental for on-device AI acceleration, enhancing workflows driven by Copilot, and enabling background optimization as well as low-power inferencing tasks.

The system can be configured with up to 64GB of DDR5 memory at speeds reaching 7200MT/s, which is expected to facilitate responsive multitasking and database-style workloads. However, the compact nature of the chassis may limit the duration over which the system can sustain peak performance due to thermal constraints.

Despite being classified under the Copilot+ designation, the Pro 5 Micro does not support Windows Studio Effects within Microsoft’s AI stack. This limitation is significant, as it restricts access to advanced features such as enhanced camera and background processing that are available on higher-end systems. Nonetheless, it remains compatible with the Dell Pro 5 Wired Fingerprint FSS Mouse (model MS526C), which supports Windows Hello Enhanced Security Sign-in.

As organizations increasingly seek to implement low-form-factor endpoints, the Pro 5 Micro positions itself as a viable alternative for those wanting to deploy Recall-compatible PCs without the need for larger desktops or notebooks. Its compatibility with the Intel vPro technology further enhances its appeal, allowing IT departments to manage the device with similar efficiency as other Dell Pro endpoints.

With standardized BIOS and cloud-based Intel vPro tools, IT teams can maintain consistent configurations across various CPU options without needing separate system images. This modularity means that different hardware configurations can be deployed and managed without complicating existing workflows.

The Dell Pro 5 Micro is now available for purchase, marking a shift towards more compact computing solutions in the corporate landscape. As organizations continue to adapt to evolving workspace requirements, this device symbolizes a growing trend towards efficient, space-saving technology in office environments.
