Geekom Launches GeekBook X16 Pro: Affordable 16-Inch AI Laptop Starting at $1,149

Geekom enters the laptop market with the GeekBook X16 Pro, offering a robust 16-inch design starting at $1,699, featuring a 2TB SSD and impressive performance metrics.

Geekom has entered the laptop market with its new GeekBook X16 Pro, a 16-inch machine that aims to deliver solid performance at a more affordable price point compared to competitors. Priced at around $1,699 with a 2TB SSD, the GeekBook X16 Pro boasts specifications that make it an attractive option for both casual users and professionals.

The laptop features an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, Intel Arc graphics, and up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, making it capable of handling a variety of tasks from image editing to web browsing. While Geekom has made a name for itself in the mini PC space, the GeekBook X16 Pro marks its first foray into laptops, and initial impressions suggest that the company has successfully transitioned into this competitive arena.

With a sleek chassis and a full number pad, the design of the GeekBook X16 Pro is understated yet elegant, allowing it to fit seamlessly into both casual and formal settings. Weighing just 1.27 kg (2.8 pounds) and measuring 0.68 cm (0.27 inches) thick, the laptop offers portability without compromising on connectivity, featuring multiple ports including two USB-C, two USB-A, an HDMI port, and a microSD card reader.

The display, although not groundbreaking, provides a respectable color range with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a peak brightness of 425 nits. In testing, the screen covered 98% of the sRGB color gamut and 74% of both AdobeRGB and P3, making it suitable for most office and personal applications, although it may not satisfy users seeking a premium visual experience.

Performance-wise, the GeekBook X16 Pro excels in various benchmarks, achieving a 2,375 single-core score and a 7,926 multi-core score in Geekbench 6, while performing admirably in Cinebench R24 and 3DMark Time Spy tests. With a CrystalDiskMark read speed of 6,994MB/s and a write speed of 6,121MB/s, the SSD ensures quick data access, further enhancing the user experience.

Battery life is another strong point, with the laptop managing nearly 11 hours of use under typical conditions, making it viable for a full workday. The included 65W charging adapter allows for quick recharges, enabling users to stay productive without frequent interruptions.

However, not all aspects shine; the fan noise has been noted as a downside. Users may find the high-pitched whine distracting, particularly during intensive tasks. Additionally, the GeekBook X16 Pro lacks support for Windows Hello facial recognition, relying instead on a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button for secure logins.

Software-wise, the laptop comes with Geekom PC Manager, a program that helps optimize performance and maintain system health without cluttering the user experience with unnecessary bloatware. This feature, combined with the laptop’s ability to handle basic AI tasks—despite using older Intel Ultra processors—positions it as a solid option for users not needing cutting-edge tech.

While the GeekBook X16 Pro may not be the most powerful or advanced AI laptop available, it provides a reliable and budget-friendly alternative in the evolving computing landscape. As companies continue to release new flagship devices with next-gen processors, the X16 Pro stands out by offering ample memory and storage at a lower price point, making it a compelling choice for consumers on a budget.
